Portlethen (and surrounding communities) Information Resource
Portlethen is a reasonably sized town in the North East of Scotland. Portlethen is a few miles south of Aberdeen and around a mile inland.
The number of houses has increased greatly since the 1970's (the oil boom).
Close by there are three small coastal villages, Findon, Old Portlethen and Downies.
Further South is Newtonhill, which has also increased in size, then finally Muchalls.
Recently, instead of expanding the established settlements, a couple of new towns have been started.
Hillside (in theory part of Portlethen) lies just North of Portlethen and Chapelton
(originally it was to be called Chapelton of Elsick) just West of Newtonhill.
